Madrid earned hard-fought win over Valencia thanks to their own homegrown players

It wasn't an easy ride for Real Madrid against Valencia on Saturday night despite the 2-0 scoreline possibly saying otherwise. Blancos played brilliantly in the first half, however, they seemingly lacked match fitness in the second half. Moreover, neither Gareth Bale nor Karim Benzema is yet to grab the responsibility for providing the much necessary goals.

In fact, it was Castilla graduates who earned this victory. Dani Carvajal was directly involved in both Madrid's goals. Marcos Llorente started in two consecutive matches and was already likened to legendary Xabi Alonso by one of Real Live users. Lucas Vazquez scored two goals in a row - against Roma and Valencia. Finally, Sergio Reguilon made his long-anticipated return following a muscle injury against Celta in November.

As Diario AS editor Alfredo Relano puts it: 'that added injection of heart, enthusiasm and commitment brought by youth products is always key', especially considering the fact that Blancos sensationally lost to Eibar last week. Naturally, Madrid needed an impulse to continue their fight for the La Liga crown. With 23 points, they are now just three points behind leaders Sevilla; however, they face Alaves later on Sunday.

Two Madrid stars, however, keep disappointing. Isco and Marco Asensio were introduced in the second half of the game and were unable to demonstrate their class. The attacker is struggling sensationally since the start of the 2018/2019 season while the midfielder is seemingly overlooked by Santiago Solari for a strange reason. He is yet to start in all seven matches the Argentinean has overseen so far.

Take a look at Asensio's best moment from the previous seasons. Will he be able to regain his form?
