Zinedine Zidane made his unexpected Real Madrid return on 11 March. He was gone for a bit more than nine months. Without him, Los Blancos crashed out of all competitions and were beaten by both Barcelona and Ajax at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in the course of just one week.
Zidane's glorious tenure between 2016 and 2018 is still hailed by those close to the club. Former Madridista Claude Makelele joins the chorus, as quoted by Radio Marca: "Zidane is the perfect coach for Real Madrid, he is an example."
Zidane saw Los Blancos scooping three Champions League trophies in a row. He also won two Club World Cup titles, two UEFA Cups and one La Liga. Even though Madrid won't win any silverware this term, there are high hopes the Frenchman would be able to revamp the squad.
