Ajax verstile defender Edson Alvarez 'doesn't know anything' about Real Madrid interest despite emerging rumours

Ajax defender Edson Alvarez has emerged as a surprise target for Real Madrid, according to a report from Radio Formula, despite the fact that the centre-back is yet to impress in Eredivisie.

“I’ve heard rumours that Real Madrid wants me too, but I don’t know anything else," the 22-year-old told Telemundo.

“I focus on Ajax and want to work hard here. I can still achieve great things here.”

Ajax signed Alvarez last summer for 15 million euros. The Mexican is yet to become a starter in Amsterdam making 23 appearances since joining the Eredivisie side, only 12 of these in the league.

Moreover, Los Blancos would hardly need such a low-profile signing on this position as they already have the likes of Javi Sanchez and Jesus Vallejo.
