Who'll be Madrid manager next season? 4 possible scenarios with probability ratings

Zinedine Zidane refused to speculate on his future after the final game of the season.

"In the next days I will talk to the club and we will see what will happen but not only to me, we will see what will happen next season and all those things,," Zidane said after the Villarreal game.

So crunch talks with Florentino Perez are planned, and at some point next week we'll probably know whether Zidane stays as a manager or not.

Now, there are 4 possible scenarios.

1. Zidane stays

Probability: 8/10

While there are many reports that Zidane is tired and wants a break from football, Zizou has repeatedly dismissed them as fake. Perhaps all Zidane exit rumours are just media speculation? This could be the case. Then he will continue with Madrid next season.

There is also a theory in the Spanish press that Zidane's refusal to commit his future to Madrid is all about making Florentino Perez spend money this summer.

Real Madrid did not really improve the squad last summer, and Zidane may try to convince Perez to splash the cash on the likes of Mbappe by threatening to resign.

Anyway, Zidane staying at the club is still quite likely—we believe it's the most probable scenario. Flo Perez is perfectly capable of convincing Zizou to stay—perhaps by promising to reinforce the squad with new signings.

2. Zidane leaves, Allegri hired

Probability: 6/10

There is a chance that these rumours about Zidane walking away come true, and he indeed leaves the club next week.

Max Allegri appears to be the likeliest candidate to replace Zizou. The Italian is said to be prioritising Madrid over a vacancy at Napoli and a return to Juventus, and is waiting for the Frenchman's decision.

Allegri will probably need some money to rebuild the squad, but as his time with Juventus and Milan showed, he can improve results even without significant financial backing.

3. Zidane leaves, Raul promoted

Probability: 5/10

Another option to replace Zidane is Raul Gonzalez Blanco. The legendary striker is currently in charge of Castilla, leading them to the best Youth League result in their history.

The 43-year-old is quite open about his desire to manage the Whites.

"This is my home and this is where I want to be. I am a man of the club," Raul said when asked about taking charge of Madrid's first team. "I became a coach to be here, at home."

Raul is probably the cheapest option—not only in terms of potential salary, but regarding funds he'll require from Perez. As a manager starting his career, he is not in a position to make financial demands—so we're unlikely to see any big transfers if Raul is appointed Madrid manager.

4. Zidane leaves, Low hired

Probability: 2/10

The third manager in the Madrid managerial race is the departing Germany boss Joachim Low.

The 61-year-old seems ready to try his hand at managing at football clubs after 15 years with Germany.

Rumours have linked Low with taking charge of Real Madrid for a few years now. Giving him the job would be a big gamble as Low hasn't had day-to-day managerial experience for almost two decades now.

However, no one doubts his quality after the 2014 World Cup win. We believe Perez would go for him as a Zidane replacement if both Allegri and Raul pass up on the opportunity of managing Madrid.
