Reddit user sparkysparkl believes that keeping Ramos over Varane makes more sense.
"Ramos and Varane have been one of the best CB partnerships in the last several years, which now seems like is coming to an end. At least one and maybe even both are expected to leave this summer So if u had to choose who would u keep?

• money that can be generated from his sale(65m+) as opposed to letting Ramos go for free
• Varane being less reliable on the ball than Ramos
• Better partner to Millitao
• Team captain, keeps the players motivated and brings the much-needed energy to everyone around him.

"Next summer we can bring in a younger player to replace him like Kounde, Pau Torres or maybe even de Ligt (far-fetched, I know)
"Only cons to this are that he's older and more injury-prone."
User Saaamwise responded to him backing Varane as a player to keep: "I feel like, we will get less money for Varane than we have to spend for a young centre back to replace him.
"So, I would like to keep Varane and let Ramos go. We will have to learn to manage without the latter, so it's better to do that when we still have other veterans like Benzema, Marcelo, and Modric in the squad for guidance.
"Varane has been one of the world's best for a long time now. Incredible consistency, no major injury issue, a decade's worth of experience, and without any unnecessary drama.
"We struck gold with him and it would be quite a task to replace him. He still has a lot of years in his legs. So, it would be better to give him the wages he demands and keep him here.

Ramos will be out of contract at the end of June. The veteran hasn't been accepting the club's extension offer as it doesn't match his salary demands.
However, according to the latest reports, the captain has changed his mind and is now inclined to agree to what Real Madrid propose.
As for Varane, the 28-year-old has 1 more year on his deal. However, he's heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.
Florentino Perez earlier hinted that if the Frenchman doesn't sign a contract extension, he would be sold.
