5 possible centre-back pairings next season — and what Madrid fans think about them

Real Madrid's defence is set for a huge shake-up this summer.

Sergio Ramos will leave the club on contract expiry. Raphael Varane is likely to depart, too, although there is a chance he could stay. David Alaba has joined the Whites. Nacho proved his quality last season, and so did Eder Militao.

Jules Kounde and Pau Torres are linked with moves to Madrid.

So we asked you which players do you see as the best centre-back partnership for the next campaign.

And here are the 5 options you proposed.

Option 1: Nacho–Militao

This duo proved to be really solid when both Varane and Ramos were unavailable through injuries and Covid. Given that Alaba could be better used in other positions, the reliable Nacho–Militao pairing could be a good option for Ancelotti.

CHARLES USONGO: "No player is indispensable. The absences of both Ramos and Carvajal brought out the brilliance of Nacho and Militao.

"Alaba, Militao, Nacho and Mendy are good enough to handle Madrid defence."

Option 2: Alaba–Militao

Nacho could be benched for the younger Militao and the star signing Alaba. It will be a long season and the Spaniard will have enough minutes even if he is not a first-choice centre-back.

Earl kali: "Militao and Alaba pairing looks great👌"

Option 3: Alaba–Varane

If Raphael stays at Madrid signs a new deal, he will expect to be a starter. And his partnership with Alaba, who could join attacks while Varane stays back, could be really fruitful.

Vidath Senanayake: "With the departure of Ramos, Varane’s contract renewal is a must for Real Madrid. Alaba and Varane should take the main centre-back positions for the next season and alongside Militao and Kounde should be used up for the rotation."

Option 4: Kounde–Nacho/Militao/Alaba

Sevilla's Jules Kounde is heavily linked with a move to Madrid. He is considered to be Madrid's priority target should Varane leave the club.

Benson Amos: "Kounde, should be brought in now. He is more complete as a defender. He uses both legs and his physique is good."

oso: "Kounde is more complete and still young, going for him will be the best to strengthen our defence"

Option 5: Torres–Nacho/Militao/Alaba

Pau Torres could be available for €65m and the towering centre-back could join if Varane is sold. The towering centre-back could slot in well in Madrid's XI.

Etubom Ub: "Nacho and Pau Torres. Militao and Alaba as back up."

Which option do you think is the best?
