According to Marca's Ramon Alvarez (5 stars), there are at least two reasons why Real Madrid have chosen to sign Antonio Rudiger.
First, they believe that the gap in quality between Eder Militao/David Alaba and Nacho/Jesus Vallejo is too big. The coaching staff wants to have more starting options at the back.
Second, the club is concerned that the current defence is not good enough on aerial duels and Rudiger is meant to fix that.
Meanwhile, Matteo Moretto (5 stars) reports that Rudiger's transfer to Madrid is just a question of time. Carlo Ancelotti has played a key role in the move.
The 29-year-old's contract at Chelsea expires at the end of the season. This term so far, he has played 47 games for the Blues, scoring five goals and providing four assists.
