Ranking Real Madrid defenders from worst to best

We've already ranked Real Madrid's forwards and midfielders from worst to best.

Let's now talk about the defenders.

Very poor

Jesus Vallejo

The 25-year-old had a decent spell after Real Madrid secured the La Liga glory last season, but it is still enough for him to be considered quality material. Vallejo remains an error-prone player who is unlikely to get a first-team chance this term.

Alvaro Odriozola

The wing-back joined the Whites as a top talent but he is way too far from fulfilling it. No wonder Real Madrid consider offloading him this summer.

Average

Lucas Vazquez

The 31-year-old knows how to impress on a particular day but he still remains among Real Madrid's weakest points in defence. Vazquez's poor positioning and physical ability have often been a problem.

Good

Ferland Mendy

The left-back hasn't been as important under Carlo Ancelotti as under Zinedine Zidane, yet he is a great player who deserves a starting spot at Real Madrid for his defensive and attacking contribution.

Nacho

The Whites' veteran remains a player Ancelotti could rely on whenever he wants. Nacho's versatility - he could occupy every defensive area if needed - is his big advantage. And yeah, he's a real fighter.

Dani Carvajal

The right-back would be in the 'very good' category if not for his recurring injuries. If Carvajal regains his Champions League final form this season, he will be one of Real Madrid's key players.

Very good

Antonio Rudiger

In the German we've got a true professional who seems to perfectly suit Ancelotti's system of play – even while playing as a left-back. He's here to claim his place in the starting eleven.

Eder Militao

There are times when the Brazilian is inconsistent, yet his potential is still immense and he proves it every now and then. We can't imagine the 24-year-old outside the starting eleven anytime soon.

World class

David Alaba

The Austrian has been a perfect fit for Ancelotti's side since the first day he arrived at the Bernabeu. Alaba's leadership qualities and versatility make him a standout player in European football.
