Camavinga sets crazy World Cup record for France in Tunisia loss – he played as a left-back

Eduardo Camavinga made his World Cup debut for France in their 1-0 loss to Tunisia on Wednesday.

The Real Madrid midfielder was given a stern challenge, having to play as a left-back for the first time in his international career.

Despite a shaky start, the 19-year-old recovered to produce a defensive masterclass and was one of his side’s best players.

Camavinga won 18 duels in the game, which is the most recorded by a Frenchman in a World Cup game since such data started being collected from 1966.

The Madrid star was everywhere on the left wing for his side and worked extra hard to impress Didier Deschamps.

It remains to be seen if he does get to feature more often in the World Cup, with France set to face Poland in their Round of 16 game on Sunday.
