Valerie Boyer, a France senator, is demanding that Karim Benzema be stripped of both his Ballon d'Or trophy and French citizenship following links to a terrorist organization and support for Gaza amidst ongoing war with Israel.
In a signed petition sent to the France government and shared on her Instagram page, Boyer stated: "We cannot accept that a French dual national, internationally known, could dishonour and even betray our country in this way."
Benzema spoked the hornet's nest when he declared his support for the people of Gaza in a tweet.
"All our prayers for the inhabitants of Gaza who are once again victims of these unjust bombings which spare no women or children," Benzema tweeted.
Hours later, a French minister linked the former Real Madrid captain to a terrorist organization.
