In the summer of 2023, Karim Benzema announced his departure from Real Madrid, sending shockwaves through the football world.
The Frenchman wasted no time in finding a new home, signing a multi-million-dollar deal with Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad.
Just six months later, as the winter transfer window approached, speculations surfaced about Benzema's desire to return to Europe. Rumours linked the iconic striker with a move to the Premier League, a reunion with boyhood club Olympique Lyon and even a potential comeback to Bernabeu.
The rumours remained just that, rumours, as Benzema continued at Al Ittihad. Reports of tensions with his coach, Marcelo Gallardo, and a desire to return to Europe persisted, though.
In a recent interview with the local media, Benzema addressed the topic, setting the record straight.
"The story of my departure is not true and I am happy in Saudi Arabia. I have no problems with Gallardo, all those who say I want to return to Europe are liars.
"I am very happy at Al-Ittihad. For my part, I have no problems with anyone. Ask the coach."
The 36-year-old has netted 12 goals and six assists in his 22 appearances for the Saudi side. They are fifth in the league standings, twenty two points behind the leaders.
