Carlo Ancelotti has explained leaving Arda Guler on the bench during Real Madrid's 1-0 win against Sevilla.
Guler was overlooked late on as Ancelotti had Dani Ceballos enter from the bench instead.
The summer signing is yet to make his league debut and Ancelotti said: "I had a thought before the goal and I changed my mind after the goal and I preferred to bring on a more defensive player such as Ceballos.
"I think he understands it very well and if he doesn't, that's fine."
Guler who clocked 19 on Sunday looked set to be afforded a rare chance to showcase his talents. With Madrid still in search of an all-important winner, he was instructed to prepare himself for an imminent introduction to the fray.
Just as the Turk was ready to take to the pitch, however, the deadlock was broken. Minutes after his substitution off the bench, Luka Modric conjured up a moment of magic, driving a wonderful strike home off the inside the post from 20 yards.
Guler has managed just 25 minutes of football at Real Madrid, his last a three-minute cameo against Rayo Vallecano.
