Kroos: 'Real Madrid love Champions League and we've shown it again'

Real Madrid defeated Man City on penalties after drawing the first (3-3) and second legs (1-1).

Toni Kroos has reflected on both victories and the Whites' mentality. Madrid were criticised for defending too deep at the Etihad but the German insists it's how you beat an opponent like City.

"We're always ready to dig in," the midfielder said post-match, as quoted by the club's official website. "It was a good performance, the tie was always wide open and we had to keep believing until the end.

"That's a real trait of this team. We always had faith that we could at least take it to penalties and we gave it everything we had.

"The Champions League is so important to this club. We love this competition and we've shown it again. I suffered during the penalty shootout, I'd rather have taken one but you always struggle more from the sidelines.

“We wanted to get on the ball a bit more in order to get some respite because chasing it all the time is tiring but they pressed high up and if you lose it, they'll hit you with five or six [goals]."
