Sergio Ramos set to join a team that doesn’t exist yet

Sergio Ramos is now in advanced negotiations to sign for San Diego FC, The Athletic reliably reports.

Ramos took a stupendous pay cut to sign for boyhood club Sevilla last summer but the legendary defender will not stay in Spain beyond 2024 and is now looking at finishing his career in America.

But San Diego FC are only an MLS expansion side yet to be properly formalized and will only make their debut in the MLS in 2025.

However, Ramos will likely earn much more than he did at Sevilla as San Diego are in a similar position as Inter Miami were in 2018. Today, they have players like Leo Messi, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets on payroll.

Ramos won four Champions League titles during his career, all at Real Madrid. He also lifted the World Cup back in 2010.
