CLASS: Claudio Ranieri reveals what he told Sampdoria players before facing Serie A champions Inter Milan

Newly crowned Serie A champions Inter played Claudio Ranieri's Sampdoria on Saturday. Ranieri, who had managed Leicester City to the most amazing title success in 2015/16, decided to practice an English tradition ahead of the game.

Sampdoria's players gave Inter a guard of honour as clubs in England do for teams that have already won the league, and this was the manager's explanation as to how it happened.

"I told Quagliarella and the lads it would be good to mark the occasion the way they do in England, and they immediately agreed with me." Ranieri told Sky Sport Italia after the game.

"This is sport. I believe sport should be in these tiny gestures, especially for a team that won with four rounds to spare.

"We had it at Leicester, receiving the guard of honour at Chelsea in the next game."

The Inter players seemed thrilled with the gesture and promptly embellished their title credentials by routing Sampdoria 5-1 in the game.
