Nketiah will stay at Arsenal for the rest of the season

It looks like plans for Eddie Nketiah to be sent out on loan have been abandoned for the time being.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that the Englishman will be at Arsenal at least between now and the end of the season.

The young forward has only recently returned from his loan spell at Leeds, where the striker struggled for game time and it was widely expected that he would join another Championship club on a temporary basis.

Bristol City, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday were all interested, but Mikel Arteta decided to keep Eddie close at hand after being impressed with the youngster in training.

It will be interesting to see just how much the youngster will be involved in the coming weeks with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang serving his three-game ban.

Arteta insisted he has Nketiah’s mid- to long-term future in mind and would not be influenced by current, temporary, problems like injuries and suspensions to senior players.

It remains to be seen just how ready the young striker is for regular first-team football. The decision not to loan him out looks a little surprising given Lacazette and Martinelli are surely ahead of Eddie in the pecking order.

Do you think it was the right call to keep Nketiah at the Emirates?
