Martinelli: No 'secret' in my rise to first team, 'just a lot of dedication and effort'

Gabriel Martinelli has opened up how it feels to be a first-team player at Arsenal when no one expected him to deliver so fast when he joined the club in July.

"Really, sometimes it is hard to believe that it all happened so fast, but I know it is real and that, at the same time, this is all a very big responsibility," he told Globoesporte.

"I came to Arsenal knowing that I would need to win my space and, thank God, things are happening in a positive way for me."

The Brazilian joined the Gunnesr from quite obscure fourth-tier club Ituano last summer. Gabi's meteoric rise to the first team raised a lot of eyebrows as he has been one of the best moments this turbulent season.

The 18-year-old was then asked to share his 'secret' that makes him so good on the pitch.

"I think there is no secret, it is just a lot of dedication and effort on a daily basis, working with great desire, commitment and respect for my teammates," the forward replied.

"I play alongside big names in world football and draw inspiration from them in order to give my best on the field."

Martinelli, or Goatinelli, as one fan put it, has scored 10 goals and provided 4 assists in 26 games this season.

There is a long line of football personalities praising the Brazilian, with iconic Ronaldinho and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hailing the forward.
