Arsenal reportedly prioritise signing Atheltic Bilbao's centre-back Unai Nunez this summer

Another day, another centre-back linked with a move to Arsenal. Well, to be fair, anything's better than Jesse Lingard. The dancing prick.

Anyhow, The Daily Mail report that Mikel Arteta has set his sights on Athletic Bilbao's Unai Nunez, a 23-year-old centre-back with a £26.5m release clause in his contract.

Arsenal look ready to meet that, although they are not alone, with Man City, Inter and Bayern Munich reportedly all interested in the defender. Nunez has made 18 appearances for Athletic this season and became first-choice in a back three.

Arteta is eyeing up his compatriot in a bid to replace the ageing Sokratis and Luiz - both players are over 30. We do wonder what this report, if accurate, means for other Arsenal defenders though.

19-year-old William Saliba is set to return this summer, Pablo Mari is 26, Rob Holding is 24, while Calum Chambers is 25. All four can stake a realistic claim of being first-choice, throwing Nunez into the mix basically dooms three of the four because we are unlikely to make him sit on the bench after paying £26.5m.

But it's better than Jesse Lingard. Most definitely better. Much, much better in fact.
