No champion, no relegation, no promotion: Eredivisie ends 2019/20 campaign

The Eredivisie has become the first major European football league to end the 2019/20 campaign amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

With Prime Minister Mark Rutte banning professional football games until September, the Dutch FA has voted to officially end the 2019/20 season.

There will be no promotion and relegation to and from the Dutch first division while the country's champion will also not be crowned with Ajax and AZ Alkmaar being top of the table.

An 'increasing number' of Premier League sides believe that finishing the season amid the coronavirus outbreak is no longer a possibility, according to The Guardian.

Among the wide range of concerns is the health and safety of the players and coaching staff as well as financial challenges that come with having to play the remaining games behind closed doors.
