'I really enjoyed that': Szczesny recalls being over the moon when Juve knocked Spurs out of Champions League

Wojciech Szczesny has discussed the game between Tottenham and Juventus which took place in London in the Champions League play-offs.

The Serie A side and our arch-rivals locked horns on March 7, 2018, and the Bianconeri emerged victorious after securing a 1-2 win thanks to goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala.

Max Allegri's side sent Spurs spiralling out of Europe as the first game ended in a 2-2 draw.

"I really enjoyed that, let me tell you," Szczesny recalled in an interview with the Arsenal Nation podcast, as relayed by the club's official website. "We beat them at Wembley and I was getting stick.

"I was on the bench because that first year [for me at Juventus], Gigi [Gianluigi Buffon] played all the Champions League games. It seemed like the whole stadium was just everybody against the second-choice keeper of Juventus.

"I was like, 'Guys, just watch the game, you're about to get knocked out so just enjoy it'. And they did, so I really enjoyed that.

"I was quite scared because they were very good that night! We just managed to knock them out."

Here are the highlights from that game:

Szczesny left the Emirates in 2015 after the notorious smoking incident but remains an Arsenal fan.

Now, at the age of 30, he is an undisputed starter at the Juventus Stadium, having beaten the competition of Gianluigi Buffon.

While at Roma, he was number one ahead of Alisson Becker, who is currently seen as the best goalkeeper in the world and received the inaugural Yachine Trophy last year for his displays at Liverpool.

Being ahead of these two goalkeeping icons led Szczesny to jokingly proclaim that he is the best shot-stopper in the history of football.
