Stephan Lichtsteiner announces retirement from football aged 36

The Swiss spent only one season at Arsenal before leaving us in the summer of 2019.

The full-back was signed from Juventus on a free transfer to add the experience and winning mentality to our squad.

However, his spell at Arsenal turned into a disaster. After some bright performances at the start of his career with the Gunners, it was crystal clear that Lichtsteiner's best years were already behind him.

FC Augsburg became the last club in his career as the 36-year-old has announced retirement.

The full-back won 17 major trophies throughout his years in football.

  • Serie A: 7 times
  • Coppa Italia: 5
  • Supercoppa Italiana: 4
  • Swiss Champion: 1

Stephan was also named a Swiss footballer of the year in 2015.
