Torreira's agent provides update on Uruguayan's future amid Serie A return rumours

“There are many requests, but still nothing official. I have received many inquiries, but we have nothing written on the table,” Pablo Bentancur told CalcioMercato of Lucas Torreira.

“The player is training with Arsenal, he is their property, and is one of the few cases of athletes coming to England and playing 50 games in a row. After he had a bad injury, he didn’t have to undergo surgery but the return was a bit complicated.

“The coach has to make a technical choice and he has to decide if he really needs Torreira or not, but all the stories in the press are more about publicity than reality.”

A host of Serie A sides have been attributed with an interest in the 24-year-old and Torino are the latest club to join the race for him as mentioned in the media.

“Today the market is a bit stagnant, official offers, I repeat, there are none,” he added. “Torino? Football must be divided into two parts, the sporting and the economic.

“In sporting terms, Torreira is perfect for Turin, Giampaolo has always wanted him, but we must be aware of the fact that Arsenal will demand a substantial fee, and also Lucas’ salary I think is a bit too high for Torino.”

After an impressive first season, the 24-year-old has struggled to maintain his form. His impact on the team has diminished and the end of the last year's campaign he was mainly used as a sub.

Overall, in 2019/20 he clocked 1,507 minutes across 29 games. For comparison, Lucas accrued 2,376 minutes in 34 games in the preceding season.

Apart from Torino, the central midfielder has been linked to Fiorentina and Roma. According to reports in Italy, he could be involved in a swap deal with Amadou Diawara.
