'It's a dream come true': Granit Xhaka reacts to being appointed new Switzerland captain

"It's a real pleasure to meet again with the national team after a ten-month break," Granit Xhaka said as quoted by Sky Sports.

"As the new captain, I am extremely proud to be able to play for my country, and moreover to represent it in the captain's role. It's a dream come true.

"We are happy to be able to count on your support and we promise we will do everything to bring you joy in the upcoming campaign and also in the future."

Just 10 months ago in October 2019, Xhaka's career at Arsenal seemed to be coming to an end. The then-captain was barracked by the home crowd and the 27-year-old pulled off his short and swore at them in despair while being subbed off.

We all remember that story and what a turnaround he's made since then. Well, if it hadn't been for Mikel Arteta's appointment he would have probably gone last winter.

Now, he's turned into a mainstay at Arsenal under the Spaniard. Getting the armband at the national team is another testament of his leadership qualities.
