'I’m excited to help push football into having a sustainable future': Bellerin becomes second-largest shareholder in world's first 100% vegan football club

Hector Bellerin has acquired a minority stake in the League Two club that went fully vegan in 2015 and became the world's first carbon-neutral sports club in 2017.

“It’s important that I invest in things I am passionate about – and I’m excited to help push football into having a sustainable future,” he told the club's website on acquiring a minority holding in the club.

Forest Green Rovers prove to clubs who say ‘they don’t have resources to be sustainable’ – that it is possible. With the new stadium, being carbon neutral and vegan the club is doing some mind-blowing work.

“People have a universal love of football, so there’s no better industry to promote sustainability – and what we can do as football supporters to be more environmentally conscious.”

Last season, Bellerin committed to planting 3,000 trees in cooperation with One Tree Planted for every Arsenal win in the post-lockdown period. As a result of the campaign, 50,000 trees were planted in the Amazon rainforest.

His off-pitch social activity goes far beyond dealing with environmental issues. The Spaniard is also well-known for advocating for veganism, human rights, gender equality and other progressive topics.
