Guendouzi returns to training with first team

They say that lightning doesn't strike twice but this week we've seen two major event that looked unlikely in August: Mesut Ozil playing in a match and Matteo Guendouzi training with the team.

That's right, boys and girls, the Frenchman was pictured back in training today and it's the first time he was involved after a bust-up with Neal Maupay in late June cost him so very dearly.

Guendouzi's last piece of action for Arsenal was the Brighton game on June 23, since then he has not made the squad for the remaining 11 games (8 league and 3 cup matches) and there was no sign of him at the FA Cup final or during pre-season.

He did, however, try to make amends following the recent France U21s games, showing he's ready to get into it at Arsenal and win back his place. It's interesting whether his attitude changed or if it's a move from Arteta to put Matteo on the market. So far the Gunners have been unsuccessful in selling the Frenchman.

David Luiz's availability is another important takeaway from today's session. The Brazilian was conspicuous by his absence and that confirms earlier reports of a neck injury he's suffered. The Brazilian is now a major doubt for the maiden season game vs Fulham - Rob Holding will likely take his place in the XI.
