OFFICIAL: Emi Martinez joins Aston Villa

Emi Martinez has joined Aston Villa on a permanent deal - both Arsenal and the Birmingham side confirmed it today.

His move will reportedly cost the Villains £20m + bonuses. Emi has said his goodbyes to the Arsenal supporters in a powerful Instagram address yesterday.

The goalkeeper made 11 starts for Arsenal last season after Bernd Leno's injury in June and was superb between the sticks. He played a huge part in Arsenal's FA Cup success, conceding just 3 goals in 6 games.

Emi expressed his gratitude to Arsenal fans once again, this time speaking to the Gunners' official website.

"Thank you, thank you for all of the years [of support]," Martinez told Arsenal.com. "I thank God for having the opportunity over the past few months to show the Arsenal fanbase what I am made of, and why I went on loan so many times.  It was always to come back and win them trophies and give them silverware. I did it, I feel prouder than ever.

"They made me as a goalkeeper; not just the club, not just my goalkeeping coaches but the fans as well because they supported me, gave me the confidence to perform as well and I wish them all the best and hope they win many, many trophies. Thank you. That’s all I can say."

We can only wish Emi all the best in Birmingham. He has a pretty good chance to establish himself as first-choice with Tom Heaton our injured and we are sure we'll see Martinez shine this weekend already.
