'Balance and awareness': Arteta lays down vision to beat Liverpool

Mikel Arteta believes Arsenal can get three points against the reigning Premier League champions on Monday as he explains what exactly he wants his team to do to beat Liverpool.

"Well, first of all you need a really [good] individual performance by all of them [players]," Arteta said at the news conference ahead of the Matchday 3 clash.

"You need certain luck, that’s for sure, in moments in the game, and then you have to be so consistent in everything you do throughout 96 minutes because in any moment they can open you up and you can get exposed.

"That you never give up. That’s another thing that is crucial against them.

"And then you have to expect them to be at their best. If you’re always expecting that then the level of attention is higher, focus is higher and you are more determined in every ball. Against them that’s key.

"Obviously we have to try to find ways how we can hurt them and positionally create problems for them but as well being very realistic and cautious that this is exactly as well what they’re trying to do.

"This is how they break a lot of teams down: when you feel comfortable with a little bit of space doing those things and the next minute you are punished and you are a goal down. It’s a really important balance and awareness that you have to handle during games against them."

We're expecting 2 thrilling games next week:

The Gunners are set to face the Reds on two separate occasions in the space of one week: on Monday in the Premier League and on Thursday in the League Cup. Both games will be held at Anfield.

Mikel Arteta boasts a 100 per cent record against Jurgen Klopp, having earned victories in the Premier League clash between the sides back in July and lifted the Community Shield after beating the Reds on penalties in August.

The 2-1 win in July was the first time the Gunners had defeated Liverpool in five years — and this result adds to Arsenal's improved record against top-6 sides.

Yet Arteta has a very challenging task ahead of him at Anfield. The Reds have not lost a single home game since the April 2017 defeat to Crystal Palace. Their impressive unbeaten run stretches to 60 games, and they will do everything in their power to extend it further.

Perhaps there is another factor why Mikel will be extra motivated to upset Klopp's side. The Arsenal head coach spent six years at LFC's arch-rivals Everton as a player before moving to the Emirates in 2011.

Do you think Arsenal have what it takes to beat Liverpool?
