Arsenal and Leeds condemn social media abuse aimed at Pepe and Alioski after their coming together

Arsenal and Leeds have released a joint statement to condemn the abuse Nicolas Pepe and Ezgjan Alioski received following their altercation during the match, which saw the Ivorian headbutt his opponent and get sent off.

Leeds said: "The vile abuse directed at Ezgjan Alioski and Nicolas Pepe on social media after yesterday’s Premier League game with Arsenal will not be tolerated by Leeds United. We will work closely with the police and the footballing authorities to ensure those responsible are identified and punished."

While Arsenal added: "We utterly condemn the vile abuse directed at Nicolas Pepe and Ezgjan Alioski on social media following our match against Leeds. This is completely unacceptable and we will be working with the police and authorities to do everything we can to trace and prosecute the culprits."

Nicolas Pepe will likely have more than just abuse to worry about though: this was clearly his chance to stake a claim at a starting spot and he blew it in spectacular fashion.
