Partey out, Odegaard in? Choose your Arsenal XI vs Aston Villa!

Team news first: Leno, Luiz, Tierney are unavailable; Ryan, Ceballos, Mari are major doubts. We have not used these players in our lineups.

Option 1: Proven team

  • Arsenal performed very well against Wolves in the first half and were on a good run before the latest defeat.
  • And we should keep the starting XI we had in January, obviously without the suspended Bernd Leno and David Luiz.

Runarsson; Bellerin, Holding, Gabriel, Cedric; Partey, Xhaka, Smith Rowe; Saka, Lacazette, Pepe

Option 2: Take Villa by surprise

  • Aston Villa are a tough nut to crack and we should come up with an unexpected lineup to get three points in Birmingham.
  • We can try fielding Gabi Martinelli in a no 9 position to give him playing time and use his pressing skills.
  • Thomas Partey has not impressed in the last few games and should be given a breather.
  • Emile Smith Rowe can operate in a deeper role, which could allow for a very unexpected midfield triumvirate of Xhaka, ESR and Odegaard.
  • This is a lineup Dean Smith will never prepare his team for!
  • Runarsson; Bellerin, Holding, Gabriel, Cedric; Smith Rowe, Xhaka, Odegaard; Saka, Martinelli, Pepe

Option 3: Saving private Runarsson

  • As we know from the City game in the League Cup, Alex Runarsson is far cry from being a reliable goalie.
  • So we can try using a defensive shape to stifle Villa's attacking prowess to save Runarsson's runarse.
  • Aubameyang may be terribly out of form but his pace will come in handy when trying to catch Villa on the break.
  • Runarsson; Cedric, Holding, Chambers, Gabriel, Saka; Xhaka, Partey; Pepe, Aubameyang, Martinelli
