No ESR or Odegaard, Aubameyang in: Mikel Arteta's most-used XI in 2020/21 season

Mikel Arteta was chopping and changing his squad throughout the season in order to strike a perfect balance.

Some players got much more trust from the manager than others despite being inconsistent during the course of the campaign.

We shifted Laca to a number 10 position so that the formation could take a usual look. In fact, Arteta experimented with Alex's position and actually tested him in advanced midfield.

Injuries of course affected the ultimate picture, which looks as follows.

Arsenal's most-used XI of players by minutes played in descending order

Bernd Leno - 4.422 minutes in 49 appearances

Granit Xhaka - 3.696 minutes in 45 appearances

Bukayo Saka - 3.606 minutes in 46 appearances

Rob Holding - 3.321 minutes in 39 appearances

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - 3.018 minutes in 39 appearances

Nicolas Pepe - 2.929 minutes in 47 appearances

Kieran Tierney - 2.927 minutes in 38 appearances

Gabriel - 2.806 minutes in 32 appearances

Hector Bellerin - 2.775 minutes in 35 appearances

Alexander Lacazette - 2.450 minutes in 43 appearances

Mohamed Elneny - 2.403 minutes in 41 appearances

Dani Ceballos, who delivered an under-par campaign, is the next on list with 2.369 minutes in 40 games. David Luiz clocked 2.281 minutes, which is less than Gabriel and Holding, and didn't make the most-used XI.

He is followed by Emile Smith Rowe, who had injury problems at the start of the campaign, with 2.220 minutes in 33 appearances. The next one is Partey, whose late arrival to Arsenal along with injuries, leave him out of the XI with 2.109 minutes in 33 games.

Willian (1.892 minutes) and the rest of the players accumulated less than 2.000 minutes each.
