Balogun matches 47-year-old Ligue 1 record after continuing goal-scoring streak for Reims

 has had a dream start to his loan stint with 

 loanee scored in his side’s 1-1 draw against 

Balogun has scored in each of his first three appearances for the French club in Ligue 1 so far.

The 21-year-old striker has become the first player for Reims to score in each of his first three matches since Jacques Vergnes did in 1975.

Balogun is also among the top scorers in the French league currently and seems to be settling in really well at Reims.

The Times' Gary Jacob goes as far as suggesting that the deal is almost done, with 

 set to subsidise some of Pepe's £140,000-a-week wages to facilitate the move.

Other news outlets, like The Telegraph and The Athletic's David Ornstein, only say that the clubs are in talks, although it's understood that the confidence is growing that the agreement is going to be reached.

Pepe has not justified the club-record fee of £72 million Arsenal paid for his transfer from Lille three years ago. He has not started a game since last October, failing to make an appearance this season yet.

After offloading Pepe, Arsenal are hoping to add a wide player to the squad, having missed out on Raphinha earlier in the window.
