'His name was connected with red cards and stupid things': Kevin Campbell praises Xhaka's Arsenal turnaround

Speaking on talkSPORT radio, Arsenal great Kevin Campbell said: "I had written Granit Xhaka off, I'll be honest. You look at Xhaka, his name was just connected with red cards and doing stupid things on the pitch.

"This season he's been incredible. Him playing further forward has helped, him having full-backs who can can help in the midfield so he doesn't need to sit in the midfield. He can get further up the pitch.

"When I look at Xhaka, he epitomises what Arsenal are, they've been down, and he's come from nowhere, everybody used to say 'we need Switzerland's Xhaka at Arsenal', and now he's proving it."

Xhaka is on course to have his most productive Premier League campaign for Arsenal after scoring two goals and providing two assists so far this season.

The 30-year-old is also playing in a much more careful way now, averaging 0.6 tackles and 0.6 fouls per league game and earning just two yellow cards.
