Arsenal have been slammed for their decision to sell Bernd Leno to Fulham last year.
Journalist Charles Watts opened up on the debate in who is better between Leno and Emiliano Martinez, saying: “I think Leno, last season, had a better season than Martinez.
“Obviously, Martinez won the World Cup, which was very, very good and he was great in that tournament.
“But, in the Premier League last season, I don’t think there was a better goalkeeper than Leno. He was brilliant for Fulham.
“It just (proved) that Arsenal (selling him) to Fulham was a nightmare. An awful deal for Arsenal. And he has been great for Fulham, Leno. I don’t think Martinez has been great for Aston Villa, by any means.”
The Gunners let go of Leno after deeming him surplus to requirement due to the impressive performances of Aaron Ramsdale.
However, Mikel Arteta opted to sign David Raya this summer to put the pressure on the Englishman – who might lose his no.1 spot if he can’t keep performing at the highest level.
