'I thought he was excellent': Arteta refuses to blame Raya for errors vs Man City

In his post-match interview, Mikel Arteta was asked about David Raya's shaky performance between the sticks in the 1-0 win over Manchester City.

"I think he was excellent," said the Arsenal boss speaking to Premier League Productions.

"He can misplace one or two passes. I demand him to stop the ball when he needs to, to get clarity, to get understanding, to provoke the opponent.

"Overall, the way he controlled the box, the aerials, how dominant he was, how high he played; I thought he was excellent.

"I love players with big courage, and David certainly has [that]."

Arsenal won the game thanks to a super goal from Gabriel Martinelli, who came on as a substitute.

However, that scoreline hardly explains how Raya was just one error away from a Man City win.

Credit to our defenders William Saliba and Ben White for keeping trouble from Erling Haaland and co at bay.
