Gareth Southgate has confirmed that Declan Rice will be England's skipper in the friendly against Belgium on March 26. The Arsenal midfielder will make his 50th appearance for the national team.
"It's his 50th cap, he has great leadership experience already," the England head coach said at the press conference. "It's a brilliant opportunity for some of the young players to show leadership as some of our core group, Trippier, Walker, Maguire are not with us."
"I'm speechless, lost for words. When [Southgate] told me, I gave him a hug and shook his hand," Rice told Sky Sports. "I said, thank you very much. He's made me feel at home and I've really grown in confidence.
"On my 50th cap, at Wembley, in front of my family, my friends... It's an absolute honour. You can see by my face. I'm speechless."
