Arsenal want to sign Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres this summer. The Swedish player is on the Gunners' wishlist as Mikel Arteta is looking for a dependable goal-scorer to strengthen the team's attack.
However, some Arsenal fans name one huge problem about this transfer and it's not even a €100m release clause in Viktor's contract. Gyokeres plays in the Liga Portugal which is a lot weaker than Premier League.
Real talk: "If he’s playing in a league that’s average and scoring 20-25 goals a season - it’s good for him and his profile. This is the Premier League, a tough league. Can he cope is the question? In this league, you have to be mentally and physically strong and have the talent to cope in our league."
T-wai: "We are talking about a player with zero EPL experience. 100m may be too much. Big money doesn't have to translate to big success. Mudryk's issue rings a bell."
Grant Farquharson: "He has had one good season, it's a big jump into the Premiership."
captin weestain: "Hmm 100 million, the league he’s in is one of the worst, to be honest, it’s a gamble. I say we find a South American."
KAkinmboni: "Gyokeres is getting the hype of playing for a top team in a weak league."
ColtsFanPO: "Gyokeres is really good I’m not saying he isn’t. But his numbers are skewed because he’s playing in the best team in a weak league, in a side that dominates in every attacking stat. So his success this season has a ton to do with the system and quality of opposition IMO."
Gyokeres scored 22 goals and made 9 assists in 24 appearances for his club. That's incredible stats, however, Portugal league is indeed less competitive than the Premier League and Viktor is a striker for the best club in this league.
Some put Erling Haaland as an example that a player can continue to show great performance moving from a less competitive league to the Premier League. However, he can be just an exception in the rule.
