Martin Zubimendi 'seduced' by idea of replacing Thomas Partey at Arsenal (reliability: 4 stars)

According to Spanish publication Sport, cited by Football365, Martin Zubimendi is finding himself increasingly 'seduced' by the thought of joining Arsenal under Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners are set to clear out some players this summer, with Thomas Partey being on the uncertain list.

Partey's contract expires in a year and Arsenal have neither opened new contract talks nor alluded to selling him.

If Partey is sold, Zubimendi would be the perfect replacement. Arteta reportedly wishes to deploy Declan Rice in a more advanced role, meaning Zubimendi would potentially play as the deep anchor.

Arsenal have also gotten an advantage in the Real Sociedad midfielder's pursuit. The Spanish side are refusing to negotiate or lower Zubimendi's £51 million release clause.

Barcelona, who are also interested, have basically been priced out of a move. That leaves Arsenal with an open field, especially since Zubimendi himself is eager to join.
