Despite potentially winning the Premier League this season, Liverpool — not Arsenal — will be placed in Pot 1 for the next Champions League draw.
Historically, champions of Europe's top domestic leagues have always been put in Pot, increasing their chances of facing lower-ranked opponents.
UEFA's revamped Champions League includes 36 teams instead of the usual 32, eliminating the Group Stage in favor of a single league table format.
Initially, all teams will be divided into four pots to determine their 8 opponents, with each team playing two opponents from each pot (home and away).
Seeding will be based on UEFA coefficients and total points accumulated by clubs, positioning Liverpool in Pot 1 with 114 points (Arsenal have 72 points).
