Express: Watford's Gracia 'under serious consideration' for Chelsea job

Watford manager Javi Gracia might become a contender for the job at Chelsea, if rumours from British tabloid Express are to be believed.

The club's current manager, Maurizio Sarri, has overseen a turbulent campaign is his first season at the helm of the West London club.

However, given the 3rd-place finish in the Premier League and a chance to win the Europa League, the Italian manager's job should be safe.

But different sources strongly disagree. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Sarri will be sacked after the Europa League final, regardless of the result.

Moreover, SportMediaset have claimed that both parties are already considering their future. Chelsea board reportedly want the club legend Frank Lampard to join as manager, while Sarri is eyed by AC Milan as their sporting director is flying to London to conduct talks.

But Chelsea are likely to explore alternative options, Express claim.

The Hornets' boss Gracia is 'under serious consideration' due to his management style and preparedness to leave the transfer market dealings to his superiors.

Earlier, Javi Gracia was already said to be in the shortlist for the job, as journalist Duncan Castles revealed. However, the Spaniard is currently tied to Watford with a deal until the summer of 2023, with an option to extend for a further three years.

This is the longest contract held by any Premier League manager and Chelsea would likely have to pay a hefty compensation fee to Watford in case they want to appoint Gracia.
