Shaun Wright-Phillips: Transfer ban won't hinder Chelsea

Former Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has weighed in on the question of the transfer ban that is haunting the Blues.

Chelsea have been sanctioned for breaking the rules regarding the signings of players under the age of 18. FIFA ruled that the Blues will not be able to sign players for two transfer windows, except players under 16 years of age.

However, as the 2006/07 Premier League champion with Chelsea has reminded us, there are a lot of hidden resources for our club.

"I don’t think it will hinder them," said Wright-Phillips on the subject of the ban speaking to AmericanGambler.com.

"They have enough players in their squad now, and they have enough players on loan, which are clearly of a Premier League standard so they can call them back. So I don’t think the ban will hinder them that much – we’re forgetting that they have something like 40 players out on loan.

"Of course not all of them are worthy of a place in the Chelsea side, but there’s a lot of people with the potential and this could be the start of somebody’s career by bringing them back and giving them a run in the team, and maybe even the next England superstar, or French or Belgian superstar on our hands."

There is only one factor that may overturn the situation. Chelsea intend to appeal the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and will for sure ask to suspend the ban while the appeal will be considered.

As the recent history of Barcelona, Atletico and Real Madrid tells us, CAS is likely to grant us the desired delay which would mean that Chelsea will go on a spending spree. In this case, the youth and players on loan will not have much chance to play.
