RMC Sport, who have very close ties with Anthony Martial's agent, report that after months of tension and rejected approaches the 22-year-old Frenchman will ultimately sign a contract extension at Old Trafford regardless of whether Jose Mourinho stays or goes. The pair have patched it up between them recently.
Just last month, Martial was rated at 8/1 to join Chelsea next summer as his relationship with Mourinho was deteriorating. However, due to some clever maneuvering from Man United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, the 22-year-old is not set to stay in Manchester.
Mourinho and Woodward were allegedly in disagreement over the player's future, with the Portuguese not opposed to Martial's potential sale. In fact, the Man Utd manager reportedly wanted a reunion with Willian at Old Trafford and was willing to let Martial join Chelsea in a swap deal.
Both players were valued at £75 million in the summer– and both are keen on a move their clubs for a fresh challenge. Willian, who has been on Mourinho's radar ever since the Portuguese took charge at United, decided to stay Chelsea following Antonio Conte's dismissal.
