Contributions in Russia
- According to Bloomberg (article dated 2013), Roman Abramovich has donated more money to charity than any other living Russian.
- Between 2009 and 2013, Abramovich donated more than $2.5 billion to build schools, hospitals and infrastructure in Chukotka - a region located in the far east side of the country, where he was once the governor.
- In addition, Evraz Plc (EVR), the steelmaker partly owned by Abramovich, donated $164 million for social projects between 2010 through 2012.
- The billionaire also reportedly spent approximately $2.04 billion on the Pole of Hope, his charity set up to help those in the Arctic region of Chukotka.
- In June 2019, Abramovich donated $5 million to the Jewish Agency for Israel, to support efforts to combat anti-Semitism globally.
Contributions in England
- Chelsea provided 78,000 free meals to Britain’s National Health Service and charities that support the elderly and vulnerable during the coronavirus crisis - of course, Abramovich was behind this too.
- Chelsea Women manager Emma Hayes recently praised the club and owner Roman Abramovich for supporting domestic abuse charity Refuge during the coronavirus lockdown.
- On his instructions, the women's team donated their £100,000 prize fund for winning the Women's Super League to the same charity.
- During the latest UK lockdown, he will be covering the costs of providing accommodation (including breakfast) in the Copthorne Hotel for all the NHS service staff.
