Roman Abramovich 'donated more money than any other living Russian' – looking into some of his charity

Contributions in Russia

  • According to Bloomberg (article dated 2013), Roman Abramovich has donated more money to charity than any other living Russian.
  • Between 2009 and 2013, Abramovich donated more than $2.5 billion to build schools, hospitals and infrastructure in Chukotka - a region located in the far east side of the country, where he was once the governor.
  • In addition, Evraz Plc (EVR), the steelmaker partly owned by Abramovich, donated $164 million for social projects between 2010 through 2012.
  • The billionaire also reportedly spent approximately $2.04 billion on the Pole of Hope, his charity set up to help those in the Arctic region of Chukotka.
  • In June 2019, Abramovich donated $5 million to the Jewish Agency for Israel, to support efforts to combat anti-Semitism globally.

Contributions in England

  • Chelsea provided 78,000 free meals to Britain’s National Health Service and charities that support the elderly and vulnerable during the coronavirus crisis - of course, Abramovich was behind this too.
  • Chelsea Women manager Emma Hayes recently praised the club and owner Roman Abramovich for supporting domestic abuse charity Refuge during the coronavirus lockdown.
  • On his instructions, the women's team donated their £100,000 prize fund for winning the Women's Super League to the same charity.
  • During the latest UK lockdown, he will be covering the costs of providing accommodation (including breakfast) in the Copthorne Hotel for all the NHS service staff.
  • We're proud to have an owner who is so involved in giving back to his community!
