Chelsea make 'disrespectful' Rudiger contract offer & 6 more under-radar stories you could have missed

Tuchel wants fewer international games

Thomas Tuchel said at a press conference (h/t SI): "I got used to a lot of stuff in national breaks. This is how it is nowadays.

"Are we happy about it, all the coaches, with the amount of games our players play with their countries? We are not.

"Do they ask us? They do not."

Rudiger picked up an injury on international duty while Thiago Silva can't play v Brentford because he had a game for Brazil less than 36 hours before that.

Giroud reveals Spurs move was possible

"Well, there was a very small chance," Olivier Giroud told the Daily Mail.

"I said to Frank [Lampard] I was so determined to leave and play. I told him I had Lazio, Inter and, yes, even Tottenham.

"To be honest, it would not have been a good idea for me as a Gooner for five and a half years to go to Tottenham, would it?

"I would have disappointed so many people but this whole thing is part of what footballers have to deal with."

Scholes does not think Chelsea will challenge for Prem title

"I’m just not sure, not convinced there’s enough goals in the team," Paul Scholes told the Overlap.

“I think Romelu Lukaku will score goals but are there enough people around him to score goals. I’m not sure Timo Werner will.

"When he plays for Germany he scores every game, for Chelsea he misses a lot of chances.

"I also don’t think Chelsea are great defensively. Rudiger has been really good but other than that, Thiago Silva is 36, he’s not going to play every game.

"Christensen is a young player. In the middle of your pitch Chelsea are alright. But I’m not sure Chelsea will score enough goals and defensively be good enough."

Tuchel speaks out on Newcastle takeover

The Chelsea boss gave a diplomatic answer when asked about the Saudi-led takeover of Newcastle.

"I think it is normal that people have concerns [over human rights abuse in Saudi Arabia].

"We trust in the Premier League that they have accepted and they are the authorities in this case. This is a fact now, they allowed it."

Norwich boss hails 'baller' Gilmour

"Billy is a fantastic player and we are all happy that we have him," Norwich manager Farke said of Chelsea loanee Gilmour.

"Billy wants to play each and every second. Even if I substitute him in a friendly in the 89th minute he would be angry and I love this mentality. He needs this mentality because if you love football then you love Billy Gilmour.

"This guy is a baller. He always wants to have the ball but he’s also a young lad, we have to look after him and he also has to improve in a few areas.

"It’s not that easy for him with his height in his home country and lots of praise. I think he’s a got a good mindset, he’s hardworking on the pitch and he’s got unbelievable potential."

Giroud unhappy with Tuchel snub

"I didn’t understand why I couldn’t play a bigger part in our success," Olivier Giroud told the Athletic of his final months at Chelsea.

"Even more because I was our top scorer in the Champions League, so I was a bit angry.

"But I didn’t show it because the most important thing is the team, the cohesion.

"It was very, very frustrating. I was so happy to win the competition, but it was time for me to leave the club after three and a half amazing years."

Chelsea make 'disrespectful' Rudiger offer

According to Sport1, Chelsea and Antonio Rudiger are still discussing the defender's new deal.

The Germany international felt that the Blues' first offer was 'disrespectful' but he awaits a better proposal.

He wants to stay at the Bridge as he 'feels right at home' at the club but he wouldn't exclude a move to Bayern if the Chelsea talks fall through.
