'The most unfair I've been to a player': Spain boss explains Alonso snub

Marcos Alonso shone brightly for Spain in the previous international break but was not called up for November's fixtures.

The wing-back played both Nations League games for Spain and was absolutely immense in the 2-1 win against Italy.

"It’s the position that has been most difficult for me, obviously because of the performance of Marcos Alonso,’ La Roja head coach Jose Enrique told Marca, as quoted by Chelsea's official website.

"He’s earned it, what’s more, he could have made the squad and been a starter in both games without any doubt.

"I have to admit that this is the most unfair I think I’ve ever been to a player. For what he did in the last two games he deserved to be here.

"But small details make me think that both Jose [Luis Gaya] and Jordi [Alba] are going to help us a lot in these two games."

Alonso began the season really well with Chelsea but has recently lost the starting spot to Ben Chilwell.
