6 Academy players set to be given first-team chance at Chelsea this summer

Chelsea have one of the best academies in the world and it's only natural players like Mason Mount and Reece James become key players for the first team.

There is plenty of talent in the Blues' youth teams. Here are six three players who are most likely to play a role in the senior squad next season.

Note that we omitted Conor Gallagher from the list as it's obvious he features in Thomas Tuchel's plans for the next campaign.

Harvey Vale

The versatile midfielder broke into the first team this season but his involvement remained limited: three appearances in the FA cup and two in the League Cup.

Harvey has shown a lot of promise in these games though. There are conflicting reports about his future: a loan move is possible but it's not ruled out he stays for the next campaign.

Anyway, Chelsea's priority is to tie him down to a new deal as his current contract expires in 2023.

Levi Colwill

The centre-back had a brilliant campaign on loan with Huddersfield, although it ended in disappointment. His Huddersfield side lost the promotion final to Nottingham Forest, with Colwill scoring an own-goal in a 1-0 loss at Wembley.

It looks as if he is ready for the Premier League. Thomas Tuchel hopes he would go down the Trev Chalobah path, impressing in the pre-season and carving out a place in the first team.

Everton are interested in signing him on loan if Tuchel decides that Colwill is too raw for Chelsea at the moment.

Dujon Sterling

The Englishman impressed on loan with Blackpool this year before an ankle injury ended his season early in April. At the age of 22, this pre-season will likely be a make-it-or-break-it moment for Sterling's chances of playing for Chelsea.

The Athletic report that Thomas Tuchel likes the right-back and considers using him as a Reece James back-up next season.

Ethan Ampadu

The young Welshman got a lot of valuable experience in the Serie A relegation dogfight with Venezia. Now it's time to return to England and show he can make it at the top level.

As Chelsea lost Rudiger and Christensen, and will likely lose Azpilicueta too, the centre-back places at the Bridge are up for grabs. Thomas Tuchel is said to be ready to give Ampadu a chance to prove himself.

Billy Gilmour

Unlike other players on the list, the Scotland international already has plenty of experience playing for Chelsea's senior side, making 22 first-team appearances already.

Billy had a disappointing campaign with Norwich, one marred by homophobic insults and lack of trust from the manager. But it's an important experience nonetheless.

Tuchel reportedly rates Gilmour and will check how he fares in the pre-season before making a decision on his future.

Armando Broja

The Albanian international had a blast of a season with Southampton. He is linked with a summer move away as Leicester and Arsenal are said to be interested.

But Thomas Tuchel is willing to give Broja an opportunity to establish himself in the first team as Romelu Lukaku keeps getting linked with a move back to Inter Milan.

So it all depends on Broja and his desire to fight for a place at Chelsea.
