Ajax manager Schreuder breaks silence on Edson Alvarez's failed move to Chelsea

Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder has confirmed that Chelsea made a late bid to sign Edson Alvarez before transfer deadline day.

He said: “Chelsea reported themselves for Edson Álvarez on the final day and Álvarez wanted this. 

“For one day he was feeling very down but yesterday he told me: 'coach, I am here and I will give my 100% again.’”

The Blues had an offer of over £40m rejected for the Mexican midfielder, forcing them to abandon the transfer chase and sign Denis Zakaria from Juventus.

However, Chelsea are reportedly planning on going back for Alvarez in the January transfer window as they aim to sign the defensive midfielder to strengthen their midfield core for the future.
