Fabrizio Romano gives update on Chelsea's pursuit of Edson Alvarez

Chelsea are still keen on signing Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez but could find it difficult to sign him in January, claims Fabrizio Romano.

He wrote in his CaughtOffside column: “He’s always been on Chelsea’s list, but Ajax will try to keep him at least until the end of the season.

“There are no negotiations ongoing now, also no decision will be made by Chelsea on new midfielder in October; it will take some time. Not an easy one, for sure.”

The Blues are likely to sign at least a new midfielder in the next summer, with questions lingering around the futures of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho.

They tried their best to sign Alvarez last summer, even having a bid rejected for him, and are likely to keep pushing for him in the future.
