Koulibaly – 1, Gallagher – 6: Rating Chelsea players in Newcastle defeat

Above average

Gallagher – 6

The midfielder looked willing to fight for his team despite being played in an unfamiliar role in the first half.

It was Gallagher who came closest to scoring for Chelsea with a brilliant shot that got saved.

Chalobah – 6

The English defender was strong and willing to fight for his team. He hardly gave anything away despite the guys around him underperforming

Poor

Kovacic – 4

The Croatian midfielder was uncharestically poor in the game and gave the ball away more times than we've actually seen from him. He also got bullied easily in the middle of the park by Longstaff which was a surprise.

Azpilicueta – 3

The Spaniard was just run over in the first half by Newcastle attackers Joe Willock and Joelinton. Perhaps he thought the game was way too difficult and didn't reappear after the interval.

Mendy – 3

The Senegalese is no longer the reliable shotstopper he once was at Chelsea. He really could've done better to prevent the goal. The men in front of him didn't help.

Horrible

Koulibaly – 1

This was yet another bad game from the Senegalese defender. He struggled to cope with Newcastle's pace and was easily outrun by Almiron for that first goal.

You wonder if he's with all that £30m Chelsea spent on him after today.

Other players: Silva – 7, Hall – 6, Broja – 6, Jorginho – 5.5, Pulisic – 5, Mount – 5, Havertz, Cucurella, Loftuis-Cheek – NR
