How has Billy Gilmour fared since €8m move to Brighton? Answered

Chelsea sold Billy Gilmour to Brighton last summer for €8m. Let's take a look at how the youngster has fared so far.

Lack of playing time

Gilmour has hardly figured for Brighton since his move to the Amex but that can't be put to a lack of talent. He performed brilliantly in Brighton's 3-1 win against Arsenal in the EFL Cup and even registered an assist.

Besides that game, the midfielder has only played four of Brighton's 16 league games this season. Of those four games, Billy has only seen 13 minutes of action.

Perhaps the 21-year-old gave his manager a reason to think differently after that game at Arsenal.

What has been said

Graham Potter was the man who sanctioned Brighton signing Gilmour, but he left less than one month after.

‘I wish him [Gilmour] well and my first impression of him is he is a top, top lad and we know the talent he has, so hopefully, he will do well there,’ Potter told the Chelsea website about Gilmour.

Since Potter's departure from Brighton, they've appointed a new manager Roberto De Zerbi.

Here's what he had to say of Gilmour:

"I really like Billy Gilmour,” De Zerbi said last month. “I think he can improve a lot with us and for our work

"But Caicedo and Mac Allister are two big players for us. He has to find the space to play and I have to give him more space but it is difficult.

"We do not have Europa or Champions League, we have one game per week but there are many good young players,” the Brighton manager added.

Hopefully, Gilmour eventually comes good at Brighton.
