'He's shown ability to overcome obstacles': ex-Chelsea goalkeeping coach backs Mendy to bounce back

Former Chelsea's goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon has taken to social media to support Edouard Mendy after the latter was slammed for his performance in the World Cup game against the Netherlands.

"Everyone knows that the very high level does not forgive anything, neither a technical error nor a lack of concentration," Lollichon tweeted.

"A common save becomes exceptional without any reason and a big mistake is supposed to erase all the talent showed during several seasons.

"And as it is even more visible in the position of goalkeeper, it is the torrent of comments where incompetence and ignorance are often reigning.

"Yes, Edouard has not been at his best for some time but he has shown, both in his life and in his career, his amazing ability to overcome obstacles. Come on Edouard πŸ‘Š"

Lollichon played a big role in Mendy's move to Chelsea after the Senegalese keeper impressed him while playing at his former club Rennes.

Mendy had a stellar start to his career at Stamford Bridge, winning both individual awards and club trophies, including the Champions League, in his first season. Now, however, he's fighting for playing time with Kepa at Chelsea.
